After looking in contention for the medals, he was finally eliminated after he missed his third attempt at 5.85m. France?s Renaud Lavillenie broke the Olympic record to win with a vault of 5.97m, securing France?s ninth gold of the Games. Germany?s Bjorn Otto was second with 5.91m, ahead of fellow countryman Raphael Holzdeppe on countback. Steven Lewis was unable to go higher than 5.75m (Picture: Getty) ?It was an amazing final. Conditions were perfect and I gave it my best shot,? said Lewis, who has been sharing a room with long jump gold medallist Greg Rutherford. ?But I?m a bit disappointed not to finish in the medals. I set my targets high and as soon as Greg won his medal, my nerves dropped and I was ready to go. ?I came and did my thing, but I?ve got more work to do. There are positives, though. I?ve finished fifth at an Olympics.? PICTURES: Window on the Olympics
