MARION COUNTY, KY (WAVE) ? The National Weather Service confirms a EF-0 tornado destroyed a Marion County home and sent a mother and child to the hospital.
It was an extremely scary situation for the family of five who were home at the time. When 13-year-old Cody Colvin thinks back to Wednesday morning, he says he thought he was dreaming. When he looks at the storm's destruction, it's clear he wasn't.
"I think of nightmare," said Colvin.
It's the home he has grown up in, living with his parents and two younger siblings on Calvary Road in Marion County.
"I thought it was thunder first and then all of sudden the house started rocking and then it just turned like that and then the roof just caved in," said Colvin. "It was 20-30 seconds I don't ever want to experience again."
An EF-0 tornado means winds could be anywhere from 65-85 mph and in Marion County, the home was lifted right off its foundation.
"My dad's hollering for my sister, my mom is hollering for my baby brother," said Colvin.
The strong winds ripped through the mobile home's siding and literally tossed out everything and everyone inside.
"My dad feel out of the house and when I went outside to help him up, he told me to go back in the house and bust the door and get my sister out," said Colvin.
Colvin's 9 year old sister was trapped by a dresser. He told us he had to move it to get her out. He then realized his 7-year-old brother, Tyler, was hurt. He was found in the yard thrown about 10 feet from the bed he was sleeping in.
"I didn't know what happened to him and they brought him over there and he had a split in his leg," said Colvin.
Tyler and Cody's mother were taken to the hospital. The little boy needed 40 stitches.
While everything destroyed can be replaced, it's the stuff that can't, Colvin is thankful for right now. "My family," said Colvin.
