Those clever people at Plum have just come up with a brand new selection of baby and toddler meals and snacks to add to the existing range. I was impressed to see how many new products they have introduced : for babies aged 0-1 : Plum Stage 1 Mango & Banana pouch, Plum Stage 1 Spinach, sweet potato & apple pouch, Plum Stage 1 Parsnip, pea & pear pouch, Plum Stage 2 Salmon & spinach risotto meal pouch; New Stage 2 Puddings : Plum Stage 2 Bread & Butter pudding pouch, Plum Stage 2 Apricot & Apple rice pudding pouch ; For toddlers aged 1-4, New Cereal Bars: Plum Stage 4 Oaty Chomps Strawberry Cheesecake Bars, Plum Stage 4 Oaty Chomps Pumpkin Pie Bars).
They kindly sent us through some of the pudding pouches and oaty chomps to try out and, as you can see, Pierre couldn't even wait until I'd taken the photo before he wanted to get his mitts on them !
I opened up the Oaty Chomp bars too - one of each variety (the divinely-named Strawberry Cheesecake and Pumpkin Pie) and laid them out for his inquisitive fingers to find. The bars are very moist, gooey and soft which I wasn't expecting as the word "oaty" had me expecting something dry like a flapjack. I was interested to see what Pierre would make of them.
Well, predictably, he absolutely loved the pouches. In these photos, he is guzzling a Mango & Banana pouch, which has just been released in the handy pouch format after being available in pots, which is a stage 1 smooth puree. But he also loved the Stage 2 dessert pouches with their fork-mash texture. He did initially do a double-take, because he obviously wasn't expecting a lumpy texture, but after a quick look at the pouch, he polished off the rest of both flavours (but not both in one sitting, I might add !), Apricot & Apple rice pudding and Bread & Butter Pudding. The pouches are fabulous for snacks on the go, are totally mess free (especially when your toddler wants to feed himself but often misses his mouth!) and are resealable so if it doesn't all get eaten in one go, you can save the rest for later.
Now, on to the Oaty Chomps. Both 2-year-old Pierre and 6-year-old Juliette were keen to have a taste and they enthusiastically took a big bite ... then both said yuck. I took a bite and thought they were delicious, really reminding me of the Nakd raw fruit and nut bars that I reviewed some time ago. (Click on the link to see that review.) When big sister Sophie got home from art club, she had a taste too and declared them delicious, so I'm not sure why they didn't appeal to the littlies ! It may be a texture issue so I'll try chopping them up into bits with some apple wedges or raisins next time. The individually wrapped bars are perfect for snacks on the go though so I'll be keeping a few in my handbag for when we're out and about. I'll eat them if the kids don't want them !!
